What Is a PEMF Therapy Mat?

PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. Copper coils inside the mat send gentle magnetic pulses through your body while you relax. There are no needles and nothing to plug into your skin, and most people feel nothing at all except calm. Many use a PEMF therapy mat as a daily wind-down ritual, after a workout, or as part of a regular wellness routine.

Some mats are PEMF only. Others add far infrared heat, natural stones or red light. If you want warmth too, browse our infrared PEMF mats.

How to Choose the Right PEMF Mat

  • Full body or targeted? A full body PEMF mat covers you from head to toe. A PEMF pad or medallion focuses on one spot, like your lower back, shoulder or knee.
  • PEMF mat for bed or floor? Most mats are thin enough to lay on your bed, couch or a yoga mat. Use one for timed sessions, not as a mattress you sleep on all night.
  • Want to sit? A PEMF chair mat fits an office chair, recliner or sofa, so you can get a session in while you work or read.
  • Heat or no heat? Pure PEMF mats like OMI and QRS are light and simple. HealthyLine mats add soothing far infrared warmth.
  • Budget. PEMF mat prices in our store range from about $449 for a medium mat to about $3,500 for the QRS 101 system.

FAQ

What does a PEMF mat do?

A PEMF mat sends low-frequency magnetic pulses through your body while you lie or sit on it. Most people use one to relax, unwind after a long day, and support recovery after exercise.

Do PEMF mats really work?

PEMF itself has a long research history. Prescription PEMF devices have been FDA-cleared for bone healing since 1979, and studies on knee comfort show modest results. Home PEMF mats are wellness devices, and research on them is still growing. Many people find them a calming, worthwhile part of their daily routine.

How long should I lie on a PEMF mat, and how often?

Most people do one 8–20 minute session once or twice a day. The QRS 101 is designed around 8 to 24 minute sessions, and many mats have a built-in timer. Start low and short, then build up.

Can I use a PEMF mat on my bed? Can I sleep on it?

Yes, you can lay your PEMF mat on your bed for a session. We don’t recommend sleeping on it all night. Use the timer, then switch it off before you fall asleep. A PEMF mat is not a replacement for your mattress.

Is a PEMF pad different from a PEMF mat?

A PEMF pad is a smaller, targeted applicator for one area, such as the OMI PulsePad, Medallion or the QRS pillow. Many of our PEMF mats for sale include a pad, so you get full body and targeted sessions in one package.

Does a PEMF chair mat work as well as a full body mat?

A chair mat covers your back, hips and legs while you sit. It’s great for desk days and reading time. For whole-body sessions lying down, choose a full body PEMF mat.

How much does a PEMF mat cost?

PEMF mat prices range from a few hundred dollars for basic mats to several thousand for professional systems. In our collection, you’ll find options from about $449 to $3,490, with financing and HSA/FSA options to spread out the cost.

What’s the difference between a PEMF mat and an infrared mat?

PEMF uses magnetic pulses and makes no heat. Infrared mats warm you up. Some mats, like HealthyLine, combine both, so you get PEMF and far infrared heat in one session.

What should I look for when I buy a PEMF mat?

Look for published frequency and intensity specs, a size that fits how you’ll use it, an easy controller, a timer, and a solid warranty. Buying from an authorized dealer also protects your warranty.

Who should not use a PEMF mat?

Don’t use a PEMF mat if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump or other implanted electronic device. Talk to your doctor first if you’re pregnant, have epilepsy, have active cancer, or have any other medical condition.

Are there side effects?

Most people feel nothing but relaxed. A few notice mild tiredness, tingling or light-headedness at first. Starting with lower intensity and shorter sessions usually helps. Remove phones, credit cards and metal jewelry before a session.
